Chain smoking outside the glass door, looking in at my Grandmother struggling to breathe what would be her last breaths…
The night before her death my girlfriend Emma and I sat next to her. Her eyes would open and look at us. She managed a giggle here and there. She could hear us alright. But there was something about her mumbles and the way she looked at us. She was in pain but at the same time her eyes showed a look of readyness like she was already on to the next thing whatever that may be. ..
My aunt Tricha, who had just gotten in from Florida took the night shift and I went to bed. When I was awoken by Ila wanting to eat, grandmother was still alive but quickly deteriorating. Emma and I had to leave, and within ten minutes after we left she was gone.
My grandmother was more then just a grandma, she was a friend. A friend I will truly miss.
